Book Review: Uglies

Uglies, by Scott Westerfield, is a story about a girl, who is about to turn 16, and her name is Tally. At the begining, Tally is totaly excited to get the operation you get, at age 16, to turn "pretty." Before you turn you're considered "ugly." Soon Tally meets a new friend named Shay. Unlike Tally, Shay doesn't want to turn pretty. Tally tries to convince Shay to turn, but it doesn't work, because a week before they turn 16, Shay runs away. Tally has to make a choice, save her friend, or never turn pretty. In the end Tally's gone on many adventures. Tally's final adventure is actually another rescue mission. Once she gets there, things have taken a turn for the worst.

One of the main theme's in this book is adventure and discovery. In the story, Tally has to go on a long adenture in order to fulfil the chioce she made. After facing many obstacles, Tally finaly reaches her destination. And when she does she finds Shay and makes new friends. One of her more special friends, introduces her to his parents, and she finds out something she would've never known. And it changes her entire view about being pretty.

I would recommend this book to other 7th grade readers who are ready for some good anticipation and patience. Someone who loves to play tricks would love most of the characters in this book. And if you like the first book as mcuh as I did you can go onto the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th books. You would also like this book if you like drama type stories. The drama's tied in wiht the adventures Tally goes on. But it's a really good book and I think you should read it.
